Circular walk: Col dl'Ancona
The family-friendly circular walk, the Col dl’Ancona, is very easy yet offers interesting scenery with beautiful views of the Gadertal valley, Monte Pütia and St. Martin. The route follows a wide, gravel-surfaced forest track and is also suitable for families with young children and pushchairs.
Accessibility
Take the A22 Brenner motorway – exit at "Brixen/Pustertal", then continue towards the Puster Valley, where we turn right into the Gadertal valley just before St. Lorenzen. The SS244 takes us to St. Vigil in Enneberg, where we park on the right-hand side at the start of the village in the Dolomiti Unesco car park.Description
The starting point for this leisurely circular walk is the top station of the Piz de Plaies cable car, which we reach from San Vigilio di Marebbe via the accessible cable car of the same name:
From the Dolomiti Unesco car park at the entrance to the village of San Vigilio di Enneberg (no reserved parking spaces for people with disabilities), the valley station of the Piz de Plaies cable car, located opposite, can be reached in 5 minutes on foot via an uphill footpath and a flight of steps. Passengers with a disabled parking permit are therefore also granted direct access to the valley station via the village centre and the lower Valiaresstraße (Agriturismo Cianei), where they can park directly by the lift. A short ramp with a gradient of 18.5% leads to the entrance and ticket office area. The subsequent entry into the cabins (door width >70 cm) is completely barrier-free. After an initial short ascent, the cabin passes through the midway station at walking pace, with the doors remaining closed, before continuing on to the top station, the exit of which features a short steep ramp with a gradient of >25%.
Once at the top, we follow the sign for the “Col dl’Ancona circular route”: the downhill forest track, covered in gravel, takes us down a long, sweeping right-hand bend (300 m, 12–18% gradient) into a quiet wooded area, where we pass under the cable car, shortly afterwards pass the start of the “Piz de Plaies Trail” downhill run, and finally reach the start of the “Adrenaline X-Treme Adventures” zipline. We stay on the forest track throughout and follow signpost no. 21 “Gran Ju – Pikolein” further down the valley (150 m, 16% gradient), where we eventually pass under the Pikolein cable car. At this point, the path is almost flat and offers us a sweeping view of the lower Gadertal valley and the imposing Peitlerkofel (2,875 m). Shortly afterwards, we turn right at some huts and follow the signposted “Col dl’Ancona circular route”, now heading uphill again (150 m, 7–14% gradient) to the clearing at the tree line above the picturesque mountain farms, from where we once again have a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains. From here, our route runs almost flat to the next farm, where we turn right and return to our starting point, Col dl’Ancona, via a relatively steep climb (150 m, 15–18% gradient).
The Col dl’Ancona mountain terrace offers two sunny places to stop for a break: the Ütia Al Cir (pine hut) and the Ütia Col dl’Ancona. The latter is accessible via an access ramp with a 20% gradient and features an accessible toilet.
