This beautiful walking path along the embankment promenade runs from the St. Anton district right into the heart of the city centre, following the banks of the Talfer river, through the wide Talfer meadows, past children’s playgrounds, a mini-golf course and a skate park. It also offers a view of the romantic Maretsch Castle, surrounded by vineyards, and ends at Museumsstraße, close to many of the tourist attractions in the provincial capital, Bolzano. On the other side of the Talfer, where the Victory Monument is also located, another promenade leads through Petrarca Park back to the starting point.

Accessibility

Description

The Wassermauer Promenade runs from the St. Anton district, near St. Anton Bridge – where there are two free car parking spaces – to the town centre. The promenade is easily accessible in both directions and can be combined with the Oswald Promenade or the Talfer Promenade (on the other side of the Talfer, through Petrarca Park).
From the kerbside car park, we turn left onto St. Anton Straße and follow it for about 100 m, where we then turn right onto the Wassermauer Promenade. After about 400 m of tarmac road without a pavement, a barrier with a wide passage separates the actual promenade for pedestrians and cyclists.
We follow the promenade, with its hard-packed earth, gravel and asphalt surface, strolling leisurely past benches, playgrounds, restaurants and other facilities whilst admiring the surroundings. To the left lie vineyards and Maretsch Castle (a museum with a lift and accessible toilets), whilst the Talfer meadows can be seen repeatedly to the right. The closer we get to the centre, the busier the paths become.
After about 900 metres, we finally reach a junction where the imposing Talfer Bridge looms to the right and Museum Street leads to the historic town centre on the left.
