Human intervention has tamed the wild Falschauer. Nevertheless, there are many unspoilt spots along the way that this (depending on the water level) sometimes turbulent stream has left untouched, and where it demonstrates its power. Along the route, we come across an interesting sculpture trail, a unique expression of artists from all over the world who have engaged with the landscape and its diversity.

Accessibility

From Bolzano, take the MeBo expressway and exit at Lana, where you will find two reserved parking spaces for people with disabilities in the industrial estate near the Lanarena sports centre. There are also two further reserved parking spaces at the entrance opposite the Falschauerdamm.

Description

From the car park at the Falschauer, we follow a tarmac road (7.5% gradient) to the nearby access bridge. Immediately after that, on the right-hand side, is the entrance to the Falschauer meadows (natural ground surface with gravel):
We are now on the Lana Sculpture Trail, which explores the theme of ‘landscape’ through art. At the end of the Falschauer meadows (approx. 250 m), there are several barbecue areas in the shade of the trees. A short while later, a brief climb (a 50-metre ramp with a 10% gradient) leads up to the Falschauer Promenade (narrowest point 95 cm). Before actually reaching the promenade, we follow the sun-exposed footpath of the Aichweg for around 300 metres.
Once we reach the promenade, the footpath—lined with deciduous trees and bushes—runs almost flat alongside the Falschauer (approx. 1,000 m). Various sculptures can be found along the way. Just before the first houses, the tarmac footpath gives way to the unpaved Ländpromenade. Here, you can take a short detour via a ramp to the lower-lying Sculpture Trail (unfortunately not wheelchair accessible) or remain on the Ländpromenade and continue towards Oberlana to the Theis Bridge. Here, you can decide whether to head to the village centre (Gries), continue on to the Gaulpromenade, or return to the starting point in the Falschauer meadows.
