open map
This pleasant circular walk takes us from Rabland (Vinschgerbahn station) along a shaded forest path at the foot of the Nörderberg to Töll (Vinschgerbahn station) and back to our starting point via the sunny cycle path along the River Adige.
The first section through the forest (Rabland–Onkel Taa near Töll) is not suitable for wheelchair users due to the gradients. For families with pushchairs, however, this part of the route is particularly recommended in summer: a varied, shaded path, natural resting spots, small streams, and information boards about Peter Mitterhofer (co-inventor of the typewriter).

Accessibility

From Bolzano, take the MeBo expressway towards Merano and continue towards the Reschen Pass until you reach Rabland, where you turn left at the traffic lights towards the railway station (Cutraunstraße) and park at the public car park on Saringstraße, next to the children’s playground/picnic area by the cycle path (3 reserved spaces for people with disabilities).
Access by public transport: Vinschgerbahn – Rabland station.

Description

We start in Rabland at the public car park on Saringstraße and cross the Adige bridge. At the Aschbach cable car valley station on the opposite side (Bar Laterne), we keep to the left (signposted Peter Mitterhofer Weg/Töll) and follow the narrow, tarmac Saringstraße uphill in two long bends (around 300 m with a 15% gradient), until we turn left before the next hairpin bend and follow the wide forest track that begins here into the woods.
After a barrier to prevent wildlife and grazing animals from crossing (a grating with side rails), there are two consecutive gradients of 12% and 15%, followed by an even steeper section of 18%, before the shaded forest path reaches its highest point and then descends steadily back towards Bad Egart (Onkel Taa). The few open clearings in the cool mixed forest offer a beautiful view of the opposite side of the valley (Texel Group, Partschins).
Passing the charming complex of Onkel Taa (restaurant and K&K Museum) and the Töll railway station (which has accessible toilets), we continue along the pavement of the small access road to the Adige bridge at the old Töllbrücke station (no train services).
We cross the bridge and turn left onto the tarmac cycle path along the Adige, which takes us back to our starting point at the station in Rabland. About three-quarters of the way along, we come to a small quarry pond (Rablander Weiher), which invites us to stop and relax.
