Description
From the top station of the Speikboden cable car (1,958 m), the wide, gravel-surfaced forest track (trail marker no. 26) leads us down a steep slope across an open alpine pasture (ski slope) to the nearby woodland. Passing through sparse larch meadows, we cross a second wide ski slope here. In this short section, the forest track runs almost flat before climbing quite steeply (in places >15%) up to a sunny south-east-facing slope: from up here, we have a sweeping view over the entire lower Tauferer Ahrntal valley as well as the Mühlwaldertal valley and its imposing mountain backdrop. There are a few wooden benches by the side of the path, inviting us to take a short break.
Like an airy mountain trail, the wide forest road now winds its way further into the valley at a gentle gradient, and just beyond the next outcrop, where the path curves slightly to the right, we can already see today’s destination, the Treyeralm (2,002 m).
The Treyeralm is a typical South Tyrolean alpine hut built in a rustic wooden style: situated at ground level, it features a large sun terrace in the entrance area (gravel surface and wooden flooring) as well as a small dining room (with door thresholds) complete with a bar and toilets (not wheelchair accessible).
All around there is plenty of space for children to play, but of course also for sunbathers to relax. In addition to a small outdoor rabbit enclosure, there is also a children’s swing.
The same path leads back to the Speikboden cable car mountain station, where, just above, a small play pond, a water wheel and a children’s playground invite you to linger and wind down.
