Family hike to the Wurzeralm
The Tschögglberg plateau lies on a sun-drenched range of low mountains and offers the many day-trippers wonderful hiking opportunities amidst a unique natural landscape. This lovely family hike leads from Hafling up to the Wurzeralm. The varied route winds its way along a forest track with a steady incline, first through mountain meadows and then through dense woodland.
Accessibility
From Bolzano, take the MeBo motorway to Merano Sud and continue initially towards the Passeier Valley, where we turn off onto the bypass towards Schenna, heading towards Hafling. In Hafling, we park in the pay-and-display car park on the right-hand side after the tunnel (SAD bus stop and Tschögglbergbus).
Description
Starting from the car park in the village of Hafling (1,290 m), we cross the main road at the zebra crossing and follow the ascending Hinterdorferweg (tarmac surface). Passing small farmsteads and lush mountain meadows, we eventually turn left onto the quiet Wurzerweg. After a few short inclines (12–17%), we come to the Wurz forest road on the right, which is closed to general traffic. From here, our hiking trail leads us along a very gentle, even incline on tarmac to a magnificent viewpoint with seating. Through dense coniferous forest, which occasionally offers us unobstructed views of the surrounding mountains, we continue uphill and reach a small forest lake about halfway along the route. The path takes us on until we come to a junction on the left towards the Wurzeralm, where we follow trail marker 2A. Here, the tarmac gives way to gravel. Passing a second small forest lake with a picnic area, the forest road now climbs steadily to our destination for the day, the sunny Wurzeralm (1,707 m). We return to our starting point via the same route. The Wurzeralm is open from Easter to November and from 26 December to Shrove Sunday.
