From Brixen to Neustift Abbey
This short walk leads from the episcopal city of Brixen to the picturesque Neustift Abbey. Most of the route is flat, passing through extensive orchards or along the cool Eisack river.
Accessibility
From Bolzano, we drive to Bressanone and park in the town centre.
Description
Starting from Domplatz in the heart of Brixen, we head down Adlerbrückengasse to the banks of the Eisack. Via a pedestrian ramp with a 21% gradient, we reach the shaded cycle path (Von Kempter Weg), which takes us along the right bank of the river to the Acquarena swimming pool. Here we cross a wooden bridge and continue upstream along the pavement. At the last pedestrian crossing before the bridge, we cross the road and turn right into Weinbergstraße, then shortly afterwards left into the quiet Neustiftsstraße. At this point, the tarmac path ends and is replaced by a gravel track, which winds almost flat through the picturesque vineyards and apple orchards. We follow the signposted cycle path and arrive at a small children’s playground. After a short 8% incline, we reach a junction but continue straight ahead. We continue to follow the signpost to “Kloster Neustift” and, passing through an underpass, eventually reach a small tennis court with play facilities for children. After another short climb on tarmac (max. 16%), we turn left onto the small access road towards Kloster Neustift and follow it to the monastery complex.
