Description
From the car park (996 m), we follow the signposts to Issinger Weiher, a very popular summer destination. Passing extensive meadows, which are ideal landing spots for paragliders, we reach the first junction. However, we continue along the wide forest track. Passing several stations on a fitness trail and a small wetland (980 m), we finally reach a dense section of woodland. After a short stretch with a 10% gradient and a gate with a ground grille, we emerge from the woods again. The following 30 metres feature a steep gradient on uneven natural ground (grass and stones). From here on, our walk continues steadily downhill through meadows and fields, alongside a small stream. On the right-hand side, we catch sight of the first houses of Issing, which lies on a sunny terrace in the low mountain range. This is also where Schöneck Castle stands, the birthplace of the famous knight and minstrel Oswald von Wolkenstein. Finally, we reach the Kronaction Adventure Park (917 m), South Tyrol’s largest high ropes course, where children and adults can try out a wide variety of climbing routes and rope bridges under professional guidance. Just a few minutes’ walk later, we reach our destination, the Issinger Weiher nature experience zone (915 m), where the café-restaurant “Am Issinger Weiher” and the entrance to the extensive lido (entrance fees apply) are located. Also worth a visit is the nearby Bergila herb garden. This traditional family-run business operates, among other things, a mountain pine oil distillery, which can also be visited. We return to our starting point via the same route. The return journey is somewhat more strenuous.
