This pleasant sun-drenched walk begins on the north-eastern edge of the village and winds its way along the Sonnenberg hillside above Silandro, ending at the western edge of the village. Vineyards, apple orchards and ancient chestnut trees line this varied route, parts of which are bordered by a water channel.

Accessibility

Description

Near the entrance gate to the Realgymnasium Schlanders (760 m), we turn left into a small passageway paved with natural stone. Passing between the school building and an adjoining house, after just under 50 m we reach a small tarmac village road. Following the signpost towards the Sonnenpromenade, we walk along a flat path past a few houses until the small tarmac road ends shortly afterwards and is replaced by a wide gravel path. After a slight descent, the Sonnenpromenade continues from here almost flat towards the west. High above the rooftops of Silandro, flanked by an ancient water channel and the typical dry stone walls of the Sonnenberg, the wide promenade continues along the hillside through sunny orchards and vineyards. Numerous benches and shady chestnut trees invite you to linger amidst nature and offer a magnificent view of the main town of Vinschgau and its surroundings. Along the path, a number of information boards explain the importance of the irrigation channels for watering crops in this valley landscape. To withstand the dry winds from the Upper Vinschgau Valley and keep the extensive crops on the sunny slopes fertile, a particularly large amount of water was needed here. Finally, we reach the eastern end of the promenade (760 m), from where the path leads steeply down into the village. We return to our starting point via the same route.
