The Merano Women’s Museum offers an in-depth look at the history of the last two centuries through an exclusively female perspective. Founded in 1988 by the passionate collector Evelyn Ortner (1944–1997) and dedicated to her memory, the museum is located in the historic complex of the former Poor Clare Convent. It houses a heritage of fashion, clothing, and everyday objects that chronicle the evolution of female roles and ideals in society.

Today, the institution is more than just an exhibition space; it is a dynamic cultural center that promotes awareness through temporary exhibitions and events focused on current issues and gender equality. Supported by a dedicated specialized library, the museum serves as a key reference point for research and dialogue, transforming its precious historical collection into a tool for critical reflection on both the past and the present.

Rating: Very high

The Women's Museum is located in the historic former Poor Clare Convent in Piazza del Grano, in the heart of Merano. The site is easily accessible on foot or by public transport. For those arriving by car, reserved parking spaces for people with disabilities are available at the nearby Plaza underground car park and in Via delle Corse at the entrance to the Porticoes.

The exhibition area is spread across the second and third floors of the building and is served by an elevator (135x90 cm). To use the elevator to reach the second floor—where the temporary exhibitions and accessible toilets are located—it is necessary to ask the staff, as a dedicated key is required.

Notes: The museum is located at the beginning of Via Mainardo, a short walk from Piazza del Grano. There are 4 reserved parking spaces for people with disabilities in the immediate vicinity. Additionally, the nearby Plaza underground car park offers dedicated parking spaces.
