The South Tyrolean Wine Museum was founded in 1955 as the first wine museum south of the Alps. Located in the centre of the market town of Kaltern, on the Wine Route, in the tithe cellar of the princely steward’s house, the museum offers interested visitors an insight into the region’s ancient winegrowing traditions. A tour of the museum takes visitors through the working year of a winegrower in days gone by, whilst also conveying an impression of the importance of wine for the folk culture of South Tyrol.

Rating: High

The museum is located in the heart of Kaltern town centre, where three reserved parking spaces for visitors with disabilities have been provided on the adjacent market square. The access path is paved with natural stone and is approximately 100 metres long. The exhibition areas are accessible without steps. A ramp (200 cm, 9% gradient) leads down to the large Exhibition Room 4. Access to the outdoor area (vineyard) also features a ramp (550 cm, 9% gradient). There are two steps in the cinema room. The so-called “deep cellar” is not accessible to visitors with reduced mobility due to a steep cellar staircase (22 steps). For visitors with special needs, wine tastings are moved to the accessible Exhibition Room 5. There is an accessible toilet on the ground floor.
