The Mansio Sebatum Museum is dedicated to the Roman settlement of San Lorenzo in Val Pusteria. The centrepiece of the exhibition consists of artefacts from the ancient road station of ‘Sebatum’, which offer a glimpse into daily life in the Alps at that time. The New Town Hall houses the Antiquarium, which explores the history of San Lorenzo in greater depth.
Rating: Very high
The new Mansio Sebatum Museum is located in the main square of the village of San Lorenzo, which can be reached by car or public transport. The museum tour takes visitors through the history of the settlement in Val Pusteria: three exhibition floors (connected by a spacious lift measuring 145x115 cm) allow visitors to travel back to a bygone era, the end of the first century, a period of transition and development for this bustling trading post, which soon became the Roman road station ‘Mansiosebatum’. Multimedia and interactive stations help visitors understand what life was like 2,000 years ago. In designing the museum’s exhibition spaces, particular attention was paid to presenting the content in a way that is accessible to a wide audience, with a focus on playful and interactive learning. The museum has an accessible and fully equipped toilet on the ground floor.
Notes: The museum is located in the main square of the village of San Lorenzo di Sebato. A few metres away, there is a dedicated car park and a bus stop.
