The museum is part of the Messner Mountain Museum complex and is located in Solda at an altitude of 1,900 metres at the foot of Ortles. The museum’s modern underground facility is dedicated to the theme of ice. At the MMM Ortles, Reinhold Messner talks about the fear of ice and darkness, of man and snow leopards, of ‘whiteout’ and the Third Pole. The museum displays the largest collection of paintings depicting views of Ortles, illustrates two centuries of the history of ice equipment, the world of skiing, ice climbing and polar expeditions. Outside, however, the ice on the peaks surrounding the valley is very real.

Rating: High

The modern museum has a gravel car park, from which the main entrance can be reached via a path of approximately 50 metres with gradients of up to 12% and uneven surfacing (gravel and cobblestones). The building is housed in a modern underground structure and the museum layout spans several levels connected by multiple ramps (7–14%). On the lower level, the museum has an accessible toilet without grab rails. The adjacent Yak & Yeti restaurant is accessible only by negotiating a few steps.

Notes: The car park is covered in gravel.
