The modern Monte Elmo (Helmjet) gondola connects Sesto (1,310 m a.s.l.) to Monte Elmo (2,050 m a.s.l.) in just a few minutes, with virtually no waiting times. During the summer season, Monte Elmo is a wonderful destination for families and visitors with reduced mobility: directly upon arrival, you are welcomed by a wide panoramic area offering, just a short distance away, the Monte Elmo restaurant, a children's play area, a petting zoo (Streichelzoo), a barefoot path, and the Reinhold Messner Haus museum. From the mountain station, it is also possible to set off on numerous accessible walks to various local mountain huts and pastures (such as Klammbach and Nemes), up to more challenging itineraries like the Carnic High Trail. In winter, the area turns into a family-friendly ski resort with over 21 km of ski runs.
Rating: Very high
The stations and cabins of the modern Helmjet Sexten gondola offer an excellent level of accessibility for wheelchair users. Access to the valley station is via a ramp with a 7% slope and features a dedicated entrance for passengers with disabilities. Since the automatic ticket machine in the parking lot does not apply discounted rates, it is recommended to drive directly to the old ticket office of the former Helm cable car (about 200 meters away) to get your discounted ticket for passengers with disabilities.
Boarding the modern cabins is completely level with the platform, featuring very wide doors and fold-up benches to clear the central interior space.
At the exit of the mountain station, a small metal ramp allows you to easily cross the threshold.
Directly opposite, in the building located just a very short distance away, there is an accessible public restroom.
Slightly further away is the Monte Elmo restaurant: to access it in a wheelchair, you must travel along a sloping section of unpaved road or, alternatively, you can call the venue to use the service elevator.
A short distance away is the recreational area with the playground, the petting zoo (Streichelzoo), the barefoot path, and the Reinhold Messner Haus (museum) about 150 meters away.
To return to the boarding area for the descent, it is necessary to use a passage located at the rear of the station, featuring a gravel and packed dirt surface.
Notes: The valley station of the Helmjet Sexten cable car has a large paid parking lot, which is mainly gravel.
Note on accessibility: The automatic ticket machine located in the parking area does not apply the discounted rate for passengers with disabilities. To benefit from the discount tariff, you must go directly to the main ticket office, which is located at the valley station of the former Helm cable car, approximately 200 meters away from the parking lot.

Notes: The ticket office and an accessible toilet are located at the station of the former Helm cable car. The automatic parking machine (located about 200 meters away on unpaved gravel ground near the new gondola) does not apply discounted rates for people with disabilities. Handy tip: To avoid travelling partly over gravel, we recommend driving directly up to the old ticket office first to collect your discounted ticket, and only afterwards moving to park near the new gondola.
